Adventures with Books by Author Unknown

Books are ships that sail the seas
To lands of snow or jungle trees
And I'm the captain bold and free
Who will decide which place we'll see
Come let us sail the magic ship
Books are trains in many lands
Crossing hills or desert sands
And I'm the engineer who guides
The train on its exciting rides. Come, let us ride the magic train
Books are zoos that make a home
For birds and beasts not free to roam
And I'm the keeper of the zoo
I choose the things to show to you
Come, let us visit in a zoo
Books are gardens, fairies, elves
Cowboys and people like ourselves
And I can find with one good look
Just what I want inside a book
Come, let us read! For reading's fun

My Mother Kept A Garden by shelby Amaral Schapiro

My Mother kept a garden,
a garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
that gave my life it's start.
She turned me to the sunshine
and encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem...
And when the winds and rain came,
she protected me enough-
But not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example
always taught me right from wrong-
Markers for my pathway
that will last a lifetime long.
I am my Mother's garden.
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me

Peace by Julio Peshkin Ottino

When will you ever, Peace, wild wood-dove, shy wings shut,
Your round me roaming end, and under be my boughs?
When, when, Peace, will you, Peace? I’ll not play hypocrite
To own my heart: I yield you do come sometimes; but
That piecemeal peace is poor peace. What pure peace allows
Alarms of wars, the daunting wars, the death of it?

O surely, raving Peace, my Lord should leave in lieu
Some good! And so he does leave Patience exquisite,
That plumes to Peace thereafter. And when Peace here does house
He comes with work to do, he does not come to coo,
He comes to brood and sit.

PEACE In Ni and Wo by Maitreyee Vickki Wright

Let the mothers,
Cook and care in peace.

Let the fathers,
Work and earn in peace.

Let the children,
Study and learn in peace.

Let the Doctors and teachers,
Heal and teach in peace.

Let the dancers and actors,
Dance and act in peace.

Let the painters and sculptors,
Paint and sculpt in peace

Let the shops and the vendors,
Sell and buy in peace

Let the offices and restaurants,
Toil and feed in peace.

Let the laborers work hard,
And earn their bread in peace.

Let the lovers, love,
And idle away their time in peace.

Let the scholars and scientists,
Study and discover in peace.

Let the musical hustle-bustle of city life,
Be, not numbed by terror and grief.

Let my city and my country,
Sleep and wake in peace.

And, may I dare to ask the fanatics,
What has religion, to do with all of these?
